The relationship between landlords and tenants of retail shops is governed by the Retail Leases Act 1994. 

The Retail Tenancy Unit (RTU) is part of the NSW Small Business Commissioner's office.  The Unit gives legal information, advice on procedures and processes under the Act as well as strategic assistance for parties as they work to sort out their problems. 

The Unit works with landlords, tenants, agents, solicitors, accountants and other industry advisors.  Information services, forms and educational products of the Unit are provided free of charge.
