The NSW Government buys billions of dollars worth of goods and services every year. The Local Jobs First plan commits NSW Government agencies to offer a price preference of 20 percent for locally produced goods and services provided by small and medium sized businesses.
The plan applies to all goods and services contracts valued at more than $700,000, and it applies whether the small and medium enterprise providing the local content is a tenderer or a sub-contractor to another tenderer.
What are small and medium sized enterprises?
Under the Local Jobs First plan, small and medium sized enterprises are defined as those with 500 employees or fewer, including any employees in subsidiary or parent companies.
What is “local” or “ANZ” content?
Local content is those goods or services, or parts thereof, that are produced in Australia and/or New Zealand. You might see this referred to as “ANZ” content.
How do government contracts work?
NSW Government agencies are required to undertake tender processes for the procurement of goods and services. These contracts might be awarded to a single supplier, or they might be structured to create a ‘panel’ of suppliers. Businesses are awarded a place on a panel for a defined period of time (generally three to five years).
NSW Government agencies and other eligible buyers are then able to select and purchase goods and services from these suppliers without having to undertake additional tender processes.
