Most workers are paid for public holidays, except for contract workers and casual employees who are paid for hours worked. For most workers except those mentioned above, other paid leave should include annual or recreation leave, sick leave and long service leave.
The award or agreement covering employees will have information about their leave entitlements and explain the pay arrangement for public holidays.
As an employer, you will need to determine if the federal workplace relations system affects you and if so, what you need to comply with.
Employees covered by federal legislation are eligible to receive the minimum leave entitlements set out in the National Employment Standard.
