Burglaries can be prevented and business premises can be made secure by:
- fitting security devices like deadlocks and a security alarm system. If your business is alarmed install highly visible warning signage.
- installing movement sensors for light activation after hours.
- Ensuring windows and doors are clearly visible from outside the premises and not obscured from view.
- Regularly testing internal and external security lights, windows and door locks.
- Training staff on open and lock-up procedures, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and banking protocols. If staff do banking they should travel to the closest bank by alternating routes and times and use different bags to carry any money.
- keeping keys secure and replacing locks when keys go missing
- storing valuables in a safe and minimal cash
- engraving, marking or photographing expensive items and keeping records of makes, models and serial numbers for insurance purposes.
Ensure your business has adequate insurance.
