India offers significant business opportunities in many sectors, including food, beverages and agribusiness;  environmental technology;  water reticulation and waste water treatment;  building and construction products and services;  mining;  ICT;  film and television;  and services (education, health, media, tourism).

India is now the world's fifth largest economy, with a growing middle class of more than 300 million people.

The Indian economy has been recording an impressive annual growth of five to seven per cent since 1992/93.

The size of the market, coupled with reduced trade barriers, makes India an export destination that cannot be ignored by NSW firms.

Two-way trade between Australia and India has grown steadily since the early 1990s.

India has jumped from being Australia's 25th largest export destination in the early 1990s to our 12th most important in 2002/03, with Australia's goods and services exports to India valued at $2.9 billion in 2002/03.
