Procurement in construction is one area which supports Aboriginal employment. The construction industry fulfils its commitment to Aboriginal people by providing job opportunities through NSW Government procurement projects.
Willowdene Constructions
Willowdene Constructions of Penrith supports the NSW Government's responsibility to Aboriginal people.
The company does this by hiring Aboriginal businesses as subcontractors for Government-awarded projects.
The State's leading business development agency, the NSW Department of State and Regional Development, successfully linked Willowdene Constructions with a number of Aboriginal firms that had the skills and qualifications to carry out subcontracting work.
Willowdene Constructions assessed a number of firms before selecting Ability Plus as a subcontractor for a project worth more than $1 million dollars.
This project, which generated more than five new jobs for Aboriginal people, is just one example of how the private sector is supporting the NSW Government's promise to provide job opportunities for Aboriginal people by means of procurement projects.
The NSW Department of State and Regional Development has more than 350 Aboriginal businesses registered on its database across a range of industries.
