The Budyari Ngalaya first peoples partnership program encourages the private sector to achieve economic outcomes for Aboriginal people. Its long term aim is to help Aboriginal people develop viable independent enterprises.
The Department of State and Regional Development supports Aboriginal economic development across NSW by helping Aboriginal people plan for the successful growth and development of their commercial enterprises. The support provided by the Department, indeed by any government department, can only go so far.
This is why the private sector has a key role to play in delivering positive economic outcomes for Aboriginal people. Some companies are already doing and have found Aboriginal people an untapped labour and business market.
By adopting their own unique approach, Australian businesses can add their expertise, and help build a strong economic base for Aboriginal people.
Examples of Budyari Ngalaya Initiatives
Support offered by Department of State and Regional Development
The Department provides a link between a private sector companies and Aboriginal firms and communities. For example, a company may be seeking subcontractors in the demolition industry. The company provides a brief on its requirements including location and qualifications. The Department will, where possible, match the company’s request with an Aboriginal business.
