Summary of Findings
Full Report
The Small Business Regulation Review Taskforce has completed its review of the regulatory compliance burden on the motor vehicle retailing and services sector. This sector includes businesses ranging from new and used car dealers to mechanical and smash repairers, service stations, auto electricians, tyre dealers, tow truck operators and auto-dismantlers.
Representatives of the Motor Traders' Association and the Service Station Association were included on the Taskforce to assist in the conduct of this review.
The Taskforce believes that the best way to find out about small business regulation is by asking small business owners and operators. The Taskforce, therefore, invited businesses, as well as industry associations, to provide information and ideas about regulatory impacts on the motor vehicle retailing and services sector, in particular about ways in which it could be made easier for businesses to comply with regulation.
The NSW Government has endorsed the recommendations of the review, and the agencies which have responsibility for the areas of regulation covered by the recommendations are in the process of implementing them.
