Review of the Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Sector

The Small Business Regulation Review Taskforce is undertaking the review of the regulatory burden on small businesses in rental, hiring and real estate service industries.  Business operators in these industries include real estate agents, property developers, strata title managers, conveyancers, valuers, plant and equipment hirers including recreational equipment hirers, boat hirers, and video/DVD and car rental operators.

Representatives of the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW), the Australian Property Institute (API) NSW, the Institute of Strata Title Management (ISTM) Ltd and the Hire and Rental Industry Association (HRIA) have joined the Small Business Regulation Review Taskforce to assist in the conduct of this review.

Small business operators and industry associations in the sector were invited to provide information and ideas about regulation, in particular, on areas where regulations seem unnecessary or unreasonable, and on ways it could be made easier for businesses to comply.  Submissions to the review closed 7 December 2007.

The Taskforce is currently considering the findings from the review and will canvass options for the Government to reduce red tape on small businesses in these industries.  The final report is due April 2008.  All those who included their contact details on their submissions will be forwarded a copy of the final report and recommendations.
