About 20 women manufacturers showcased their products and services at the Christmas Expo at the Western Sydney Business Centre on 20 November, 2007.  Products ranged from gourmet food items, detergents and body care products to wireless environmental monitoring software.  The function attracted 53 attendees and provided an excellent networking opportunity.  The products and services illustrated first-hand the importance of how packaging and branding could help to improve sales.

At the function seven women executives from the first women in Manufacturing Stepping Up program graduated.  The women came from a variety of manufacturing backgrounds, including medical device manufacture, timber manufacturing, electrical devices and supply chain logistics manufacture.  The seven-month program focused on improving the skills of participants in operations and logistics management through a mix of learning methods such as workshops, site visits and classroom teaching.  Participants were also each matched with a suitable mentor for one-on-one mentoring for the duration of the course.

Feedback on the inaugural program indicated that it has boosted the professional confidence of graduates, as well as teaching them new skills and giving them a sound basis for further qualifications in manufacturing.

Applications are open for the Women in Manufacturing Stepping Up program which will start in April, 2008 at Western Sydney.  For more information, please contact Viola Lee on 9338 6693 or click here.
