The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)
The role of the ACCC is to promote compliance with the code by helping people understand their rights and obligations under the Franchising Code of Conduct and the Competition and Consumer Act (fromerly the Trade Practices Act). The ACCC does this by developing educational material such as guidelines, articles and fact sheets as well as by giving presentations through its outreach programs in each state and territory.
Please visit the ACCC website or call 1300 302 502 – ACCC Infocentre to find out more about its educational and outreach activities.
The ACCC is also responsible for investigating franchising complaints and, where necessary, taking enforcement action against anyone who fails to comply with the Code. Contact the ACCC if you have a franchising complaint and/or enquiry.
The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR)
DIISR assists the Australian Government in developing the law on franchising matters. Further information on DIISR’s role is available on its website.
NSW Trade and Investment
The role of NSW Trade & Investment is to assist the ACCC in distributing the franchising educational information available. The Department also provides small business guidance related services and runs an extensive business advisory service. NSW Trade & Investment does not respond to franchising related inquiries and is not in a position to investigate franchising related complaints.
