People who start businesses usually fit into at least one of the following three groups – which are you?
The entrepreneur
- The ambitious leader who can identify market opportunities and articulate a vision.
- Entrepreneurs like to start a business quickly.
- Not all entrepreneurs are good at implementing detailed plans.
The management specialist
- The person who is best at strategy and using available resources to get things done.
- More careful about starting a business but they are often not so strong in the long-term running of a business.
- Not all management specialists understand the technical aspects of products and services.
The technical specialist
- The hands-on person with the skills and experience in the business.
- Often formally qualified like engineers, painters, accountants, lawyers or artists.
- May be keen to start a business to sell their own products or services.
- May lack experience in starting, running or growing that business.
Looking at these groups, you may see yourself in one or two of them, but not all three.
Think about what your business will need and consider your options.
